Day 1 Arrival & Welcome
Arrive in Malawi and settle in together. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a community walk or brief introductory site visit to become familiar with the surroundings. The day concludes with a welcome dinner with the Sparkle team, offering time to connect and understand the journey ahead.
Day 2 Life at Sparkle & Daily Routines
Begin the day by joining the nursery school children for Morning Circle, filled with songs, movement, and laughter. You will then help with handwashing and serving breakfast, taking part in the everyday routines that support care and wellbeing. Later, receive an introduction to Sparkle’s programmes and spend time joining a literacy or numeracy class, offering insight into the learning environment and quality education Sparkle students receive. In the afternoon, take part in a guided community walk, providing perspective on daily life in the surrounding village.
Day 3 Learning, Play & Connection
Spend the day engaging in age-appropriate activities at a Sparkle site. This may include reading with primary school children during the after-school programme, arts and crafts with nursery children such as bracelet-making or finger-painted cards or joining a football training session or friendly game of netball with the youth. These shared experiences create natural moments of connection and allow both generations to engage side by side, learning together through play and participation.
Day 4 Safari & Shared Adventure
Enjoy a full-day safari in Liwonde National Park, offering a memorable shared experience in nature. Alongside wildlife sightings, you’ll learn about conservation and the relationship between natural ecosystems and local communities. This day often becomes a highlight of the journey, offering excitement, reflection, and time together away from structured activities.
Day 5 Culture, Food & Everyday Life
Visit an authentic local market, where families purchase their daily food and household needs. You’ll learn about locally grown fruits and vegetables, traditional ingredients, and the dishes that form part of everyday Malawian life. This is followed by a Malawian cooking lesson, where you’ll prepare traditional dishes together and share a meal - a relaxed and joyful way to experience culture and hospitality.
Day 6 Sustainability & Shared Legacy
Spend the day at the Sparkle Farm, learning how food security and sustainable farming practices support long-term community wellbeing and education. You will then take part in a legacy activity, such as planting a tree together, creating a shared and lasting connection to Sparkle and to the journey you’ve experienced together.
Day 7 Zomba Plateau & Reflection
Travel to the Zomba Plateau for a hike or nature walk, offering sweeping views and time to slow down and reflect. The journey concludes with a closing reflection session and a farewell BBQ with the Sparkle team, celebrating shared experiences, learning, and connection.
Day 8 Departure
Depart Malawi with shared memories, deeper understanding, and a renewed sense of connection both with each other and with the wider world.
