Meet Unika, a testament to Sparkle's impact in Malawi. Once a graduate of Sparkle's pre-school programme, he now excels as a passionate primary school student at the closest public school in Zomba, a 30-minute walk from Sparkle.
Every afternoon, Unika arrives at Sparkle, eager to continue learning after a morning of classes at the public school. Being one of 130 students in his class alone at the primary school he attends, he never misses Sparkle's after-school programme, where he is able to receive personalized attention, especially in English. Under the guidance of his dedicated teacher, Esther, Unika thrives with a holistic education approach, ensuring he stays on track with his peers.
Unika's journey underscores the transformative power of education. With your support, Sparkle continues to empower children like Unika to reach their full potential. Join us in shaping brighter futures in Malawi.
It's lunchtime at Sparkle, and today's menu features a nutritious plate of 'nsima,' the traditional Malawian maize-based porridge, served with a flavorful relish made from the freshest seasonal vegetables, and chicken.
For Unika, this daily meal is a welcomed delight. With breakfast not provided at his primary school and dinner at home uncertain, Sparkle's Nutrition programme ensures he receives nourishment to fuel his studies and growth.
Unika's favorite meal? Without a doubt, it's this wholesome plate of 'nsima' and relish, a reminder of the care and support he receives at Sparkle every day.
With Sparkle's Health programme, regular check-ups are a cornerstone of ensuring every child's well-being, including Unika. Every three months, Unika and his classmates visit Nurse Rose for their quarterly health assessment. This reaffirms that Sparkle's current nutrition programme adequately supports his growth needs.
Amidst ongoing health concerns, such as the Cholera outbreak affecting countless communities in the country, Nurse Rose emphasizes the importance of preventative measures to all students.
Unika takes these valuable insights home, ensuring his parents are informed and empowered to protect their family's health. In Sparkle's Health programme, every child's well-being is a priority, fostering a culture of health and resilience in the community.
Saturday arrives, and it's football match day for Unika and his peers! The Sparkle minibus transports Unika, along with the primary school football team and their coach, Daniel, to the nearby pitch. Here, they'll compete against other local primary school teams, as they do every few months.
Football isn't just a game at Sparkle; it's a vital tool for community empowerment. With over 500 players participating in Sparkle's sports programme, sports serve as a cornerstone of Sparkle's efforts to empower students from a young age. It fosters teamwork, collaboration, and a strong sense of community, as students engage with teams from across the district whenever possible.
For both girls and boys at Sparkle, football represents more than just a sport—it's a pathway to personal growth, camaraderie, and community connection. Through initiatives like these, Sparkle continues to uplift and empower the next generation, nurturing leaders and changemakers within the community.
